Salman Khan's '
Sikandar
' was one of the most awaited movies of the year. The film came by the end of the first quarter of the year and this big Eid release was awaited. Trade experts predicted the movie to open at anything above Rs 35 crore because of the comparisons with Khan's previous movies. However, the opening of 'Sikandar' was only Rs 26 crore according to Sacnilk, at the domestic box office. It's the second lowest Eid release day 1 number for a Salman movie, with 'Kissi Ka Bhai Kissi Ki Jaan' being the lowest.
Comparing 'Sikandar' with Khan's previous films itself and not just Eid releases, trade analyst Taran Adarsh told ETimes, "The biggest opener so far is
Tiger 3
, in Diwali 2023, it collected Rs 43 crores on day one, which was also a Sunday release. Then there was Bharat in 2019, it came and collected Rs 42.30 crores. The third one was Prem Ratan Dhanpayo in 2015, collected Rs 40.35 crore in Diwali. Number four is Sultan, which came in 2016 Eid, collected Rs 36.54 crores. And the number five is Tiger Zinda Hai, which came in 2017 Christmas, it made Rs 34.10 crores. Now, this is a benchmark, this is I'm comparing Salman with Salman."
The number is low, despite the fact that the ticket prices have been increased in most theatres, including single screens like Gaeity Galaxy. However, this was a Sunday number. Meanwhile, with Eid being on Monday, one can expect the numbers to see a jump on day 2 and that will further decide whether the film has been able to reach its expected number.
