Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor’s breakup remains one of the most discussed topics in showbiz, as fans never received closure about the real reason behind it, leading to widespread speculation and stories involving both stars. Ranbir’s mother, Neetu Kapoor, once shared her thoughts on their breakup and the strength of their bond.
During the chat show India’s Most Desirable, hosted by Simi Garewal, Neetu addressed the split, as

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone to reunite for a special project
“I don’t think he’s had many girlfriends. He’s had just one girlfriend, and that’s Deepika. I think maybe there was something missing in their relationship. There was something not there. Maybe he was not himself and he needed to break off. Everybody has relationships and they move on. If their relationship was perfect, they wouldn’t have broken up. Ranbir was probably not himself in the relationship.”
Although both stars have moved on in their personal lives — Ranbir is now married to actress Alia Bhatt, and Deepika is with actor Ranveer Singh — their past relationship continues to garner attention from fans. Alia and Ranbir welcomed their daughter, Raha Kapoor, while Deepika and Ranveer recently had a baby girl named Dua Padukone Singh.
Ranbir and Deepika were among the most talked-about couples in the late 2000s. Their relationship ended in 2009. Following that, Ranbir dated Katrina Kaif for several years before parting ways in 2016. Katrina later married Vicky Kaushal in 2021.
On the professional front, Ranbir was last seen in the blockbuster Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. A sequel titled Animal Park is currently in the works. Ranbir will soon be seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, alongside Sai Pallavi and Yash. He is also set to share the screen with Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in Love & War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
