James Gunn is all set to usher in a new chapter of the DC Universe with the highly anticipated Superman film which releases in theatres worldwide this weekend. Going by early box office predictions, the film is all set to make a blockbuster debut and even go on to record the highest opening of 2025.According to reports on Deadline, early projections indicate a worldwide opening of over $200 million. According to the report, the film is expected to open across 60,000 screens worldwide, with revenue estimates split evenly between the domestic and international markets. The film is expected to rake in an estimated $130 million from North America. However, DC Studios has forecast an opening around $100 million.Starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent aka Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, the film serves as the first major theatrical entry in Gunn and Peter Safran’s revamped DC Universe (DCU).With positive early reviews and a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes the film appears to be flying into theatres with the promise of a good box office debut. Critics, on the other hand, have rated the film with an 86% score, which is still well above the previous Superman releases, including Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (57%), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (28%), and even Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns (72%).

Internationally, Superman is set to release in 78 markets and is expected to contribute over $100 million to the film’s global opening tally. Reports state that hte film could just surpass the $230 million mark by the end of its first weekend.
