Govinda was very close to his mother and even his wife Sunita Ahuja is often seen talking about her. She has said in several interviews that whatever she has learnt is because of her mother-in-law who was also deeply involved in religion and spirituality. After she passed away, once Govinda told everyone on the set that he was talking to his dead mother on the set who had come to talk to him.
This was on the sets of '
Life Partner
' in 2009. The film also starred Genelia D'souza, Prachi Desai, Tusshar Kapoor and Fardeen Khan. According to a report in Mid-day, Govinda believed that his late mother had come on the sets of his movie. Apparently, he said that his brother Kirti Kumar had brought her to the shoot and he also thought she was there with them.
A source present on the set had said, "As usual, Govinda came in pretty late. During one of the breaks, the actor was chatting with a group when suddenly his brother’s car came and halted in front of him. Kirti Kumar stepped out, opened the door to the backseat and waited for someone (there was no one there) to step out. After this imaginary person stepped out, he closed the door. Then he held the hand of this person and started walking towards the set. Except, we couldn’t see who it was.”
The source further added that Govinda spoke to an empty chair for 2 hours and they all maintained a straight face on the set. "He said, ‘Mummy aa gayi,’ then got right up and walked towards his brother (and mother) and bent down and touched her feet. He asked his brother to leave and pulled up a chair for his mom," said the source.
Govinda is also believed to be highly superstitious and has also taken many career decisions based on it.
