'My life would have been hell if I took it seriously'

Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan celebrate their wedding anniversary today, on June 3. The duo have been married for more than 50 years now. They had tied the knot in 1973 and it was quite sudden as Big B's father Harivanshrai Bachchan said that they have to get married if they want to go on a holiday together, even with friends.

Thus, after the success of 'Zanjeer', the duo got married. They are parents to Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan. While Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan serve couple goals and have been happily married for so many years, one can't deny that there were always link-up rumours about Big B. He was linked to many of his co-stars, especially Rekha. In an old interview with People Magazine in 2008, when Jaya Bachchan was asked about rumours of link-up between Bachchan and Rekha, and if there was any truth to it, she had clarified, "If there was any, he would have been somewhere else, na? People liked them as a couple on screen, and that’s fine.

The media tried linking him with every one of his heroines. My life would have been hell if I had taken it all seriously. We are made of sterner stuff.

She had also spoken about not minding if they work together. The last time Rekha and Big B shared screen space was in 'Silsila' in 1981. Jaya Bachchan had said, "Why should I mind? But I feel it will be more like a sensation than actual work. And that’s a pity because one will miss the opportunity of seeing them together.

Both of them probably realise it will go beyond work.”When asked about the secret to her lasting marriage and to keep such a disarable man hooked, she had said, "By just leaving him alone. You have to have the conviction. I married a good man and a family that believes in commitment. You must not get too possessive, especially in our profession, where you know things aren’t going to be easy. You can either drive the artiste crazy or you can help him or her grow. And if he goes, then he was never yours!”
