One of the iconic stars of Bollywood, Parveen Babi once ignited discussions due to a controversial comment about legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan. She called a report about
Bachchan
being nominated as the 10th most handsome man of the Indian century "the biggest joke".
In an old video,
Parveen
is seen engaging in a conversation with actor and television host Shekhar Suman, who asks her to recall the most amusing thing she has ever heard. Parveen responded, "The joke of the millennium was Amitabh Bachchan being nominated 'the star of the millennium', superseding Mr Marlon Brando, Mr Elvis Presley, Sir Laurence Olivier, Michael Jackson—everybody."
Mahesh Bhatt turns emotional as he pens down heartfelt note for Parveen Babi on her 15th death anniversary
In the same conversation, she stated, "Mr Amitabh Bachchan was nominated the 10th most handsome man of the Indian century. Now, with all due respect, Mr Amitabh Bachchan has always been known for his acting, not for his appearance."
Babi and Bachchan made headlines for an alleged relationship during the height of their careers. Parveen had previously made serious allegations against the actor, including claims involving abduction and connections to the underworld. These accusations were largely dismissed after she was diagnosed with
schizophrenia
.
Despite the controversies, the on-screen chemistry between
Babi
and Bachchan led to some of Hindi cinema’s biggest hits. She starred opposite him in films such as 'Deewar', '
Amar Akbar Anthony
', 'Namak Halaal', 'Mahaan', 'Do Aur Do Paanch', and 'Kala Patthar'.
