Bollywood star Emraan Hashmi is gearing up for the release of his next movie, '
Ground Zero
', which will hit theatres on April 25. The actor, who is currently busy promoting the film, recently opened up about why he chose to distance himself from the spotlight at the height of his career.
In a conversation with the Humans of Bombay YouTube channel,
Emraan
spoke about his time away from cinema and what truly prompted his decision to step back. He revealed that the primary reason behind his extended absence from films was his son’s unexpected cancer diagnosis. The life-altering event changed his priorities instantly.
"That was a chaotic time in all our lives. It hit us out of the blue because there were no particular symptoms, and one day you come to know that your kid, who is three years old, has been diagnosed with cancer. It was an ongoing battle," he shared.

The 'Jannat' actor further added how his family and friends became a great support system for him, especially his wife,
Parveen Shahani
.
He also revealed that despite being so young, his son showed remarkable courage and strength throughout the ordeal. Emraan added, "More than anything, keeping the family aside, it was my son’s resilience. He used to take his chemotherapy, and within five minutes he was back playing with his toys. Kids don’t let themselves get bogged down with this stuff."
Emraan also emphasised how his wife
Parveen
navigated the situation, holding the fort when he had to return to work. He admitted that her unwavering strength during their son’s treatment played a major role in keeping the family grounded.
"My wife was a huge support system, even while she was dealing with a lot of her own stuff. I had to come back for films, and my wife was there with him alone. The way she handled it – she is very strong – and due credit to her. Our relationship and bond got stronger," he added.
In 'Ground Zero', Emraan plays the role of a dedicated BSF officer, Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey.
