What is the Evil eye?

The Evil eye symbol is one that everybody must have seen atleast once in life. The famous blue, white, and dark blue circles, with the lighter shade that looks like an eye, Evil eye symbols come in the form of pendants, lockets, bracelets, and more.
In many cultures, the evil eye pendant is given as a form of protection to little kids, whereas in many others people are told to stay away from it as much as possible.

Why do people use it?

People use the evil eye for protection. It is said that the Evil eye symbol, no matter in which form people wear it, can ward off jealousy, envy, and bad energies that might be sent their way. It is also said that the evil eye does not always come from enemies or strangers, but could come from a friend too!
A friend who compliments your success but secretly envies you could also send an evil eye or negative intentions your way, and so the symbol, whichever form you wear it in, will keep you protected.

People wear an evil eye to guard themselves, and it is especially common to give it to newborn babies to protect them from evil and envy of others.
Newborn babies are protected by being made to wear bracelets or pendants. People also add these Evil eye symbols to their new house, new car, on the new furniture they buy, and much more.

The protection it gives

The protection it gives

Evil eye protection comes from a simple belief - jealous or negative energy can be transferred through looks. While science of course does not support anything like this, it is in people’s belief and thoughts that a pendant or amulet could help them.
And thus, to protect a loved one from jealousy, to shield them against bad luck, and to give a sense of peace and confidence, people wear it or make others wear it or keep it with them.

An alternate belief

An alternate belief

While most think that evil eye protects, there are some communities that believe that wearing an evil eye amulet is not right. They say that the evil eye is actually an ‘evil eye’, not protective at all, but is actually the same thing (evil) it says it guards you against.
They say that by wearing or displaying the evil eye, you’re actually inviting the energy of a demon or dark spirit, hoping that it will protect you from others. It is almost as if saying ‘Evil eye, please watch and protect me against other evil eyes.’
And so people say that whoever wears the evil eye bracelet with any intention is just calling upon a demonic force to protect them.

Which belief is true?

Which belief is true?

Well, a question like this is very subjective. There is no scientific proof that the evil eye, be it a symbol of protection or a curse, exists, and anything it relates to is merely based on belief systems. Some people swear by its protection, while others avoid it, believing it is connected to dark energy.

The breaking of the amulet

The breaking of the amulet

Another belief about the Evil eye symbol is that when the amulet breaks, be it in the form of pendant or bracelet, or just a hanging, it means that some kind of evil eye struck it, and in order to protect the person wearing it, the amulet absorbed that energy and then broke apart.
It is like a sign that the wearer needs protection against because they were struck once.
