Actor Prakash Raj took to social media to share a light-hearted picture with stand-up comedian
Kunal Kamra
, amidst the latter’s recent
stand-up comedy
performance that stirred political controversies and landed him in legal trouble.
On April 11, Prakash shared a picture on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, featuring himself and Kunal, both seen tanning in all-black ensembles and wearing warm smiles. While sharing the image, Prakash captioned it, “Tamil Nadu kaise pahunchneka bhai ..?? Simple... Auto mein (How will you reach Tamil Nadu? Simple, in an auto)(sic).”
His post subtly referenced a controversial audio clip that recently went viral online, allegedly featuring a Shiv Sena member threatening Kamra. The conversation was in response to a parody video by the comedian, which spoofed a popular Bollywood song to mock Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde.
In the leaked recording, the individual can be heard verbally abusing Kamra and issuing threats: “Tu jidhar milega na bh**ke, tera bhi wohi haal hoga,” suggesting Kamra would meet a similar fate as the Habitat Studio — the venue where Kamra had performed the stand-up comedy act. The studio was later targeted and vandalised by party supporters, followed by a partial demolition led by BMC authorities.
Kunal Kamra’s Remarks on Kangana Ranaut Spark Outrage: ‘Pathological Liar’
When the caller tried to ascertain Kamra’s location, the comedian remained calm and defiant. He reportedly responded, "Aaja Tamil Nadu, main yahi milunga." As the exchange continued, the caller pressed again for his whereabouts. Kamra reiterated his challenge: come to Tamil Nadu for a face-to-face conversation. When the caller asked, “Kidhar aane ka?” Kamra shot back, “Tamil Nadu Aaja.” The audio then captures the Sena worker sounding puzzled, asking, “Abhi Tamil Nadu kaise pahunchega bhai?”
The conversation has since sparked widespread discussion on social media platforms.
Addressing the issue later in a detailed public statement, Kamra defended his right to satire, stating, "Your inability to take a joke at the expense of a powerful public figure does not change the nature of my right."
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police had earlier filed an FIR on March 24 based on a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel. Kamra was subsequently served with two notices for questioning in the case.
