and directed by Sukumar has continued its wildfire at the box office even in the new year. In India the film has minted more than Rs 1184 crore in its 28 days run. It also includes the Rs 13.15 crore collection which it made on January 1st- the biggest ever collection for a New Year’s day.

With the start of the new year, the film has also added another feather in its cap and that is of turning profitable in North America. The breakeven amount for the film had been pegged at US $ 15 million and the film has finally breached that number on its 28th day in the United States of America and Canada screens. And with this the film has also become the sixth biggest Indian hit in the circuit by beating Ranbir Kapoor’s

Animal

which ended its theatrical run in North America with US $ 15 million mark.

Coming to Pushpa’s collection, the film on its 28th day added over US $ 46, 500 to its kitty to take the overall collection of the film to US $ 15.08 million. Going by the trend it might just be possible for Pushpa 2 to beat

Jawan

( U$ 15.23 million) and RRR ( US $ 15.34 million)’s collection to jump two more spots in the list of Top 10 highest grossing Indian films. But there on it would be not possible to jump collection of films like Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Prabhas’s Kalki 2898 AD and Baahubali 2- The Conclusion.
Though Pushpa 2 has turned out to be profitable after collecting more than US $ 15 million, the distributors would end with very little money in their hands. This thus, points at that increasing acquisition cost for Telugu films and the gap in distribution model. Only time will tell the remaining tale about the growth of Telugu films in the circuit. North America is one of the biggest markets for Telugu films over the last decade or so.
