Late actor Sanjeev Kumar shared his love for films on the screen, but off the screen? - he was a big-time foodie.
The tale of Sanjeev Kumar and his love for food was narrated by Sachin Pilgaonkar, when he revealed that the ‘Sholay’ actor was such a big foodie that he rented a 1BHK flat in Pali Hills to eat non-vegetarian dishes, as he could not have it at his home.
“He had taken this house only for eating non vegetarian because non vegetarian food wasn’t allowed in his house. So he would order Paya, Nihari. Sanjeev Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Randhir Kapoor and me, we would all eat together there,” the ‘Nadiya Ke Paar actor shared in a YouTube series ‘Khaane Mein Kya Hai.'
“The paya had to be reheated 4-5 times because we would continue drinking till 5 a.m. and then we would eat the paya. We would eat it with those bakery naans and enjoy it," Pilgaonkar recalled the good times.

Consecutively, during an interview at FTII, the renowned actress Moushumi Chatterjee spoke about the late actor’s food preferences in 2019. The ‘Manzil’ actress said that Kumar would knock on her door to have non-vegetarian food, as he couldn’t at his own house. “Haribhai (Sanjeev Kumar) loved non-vegetarian food, but he couldn't eat it at home. He used to come anytime to my house, and even if my husband and I were leaving for a party, he would come and say, ‘I’ve brought films, if you don’t mind, fridge mein non-veg hai kya?’" she said, according to News 18.
