Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited film Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, and Yash as
Ravana
. But Sai wasn’t the original choice for Sita. In a recent interview, actress Srinidhi Shetty shared that she had auditioned for the role and got a positive response from the makers. She also spoke about why she chose not to take up the part.
Srinidhi’s Audition and Positive Feedback
During her chat with Siddharth Kannan, Srinidhi Shetty shared that she had auditioned for Ramayana and performed three well-prepared scenes. The makers were impressed with her screen test, and she also learned around the same time that Yash was involved in the project.
Why She Turned It Down
Srinidhi Shetty decided not to move forward with Ramayana because the audience had already seen her strong on-screen chemistry with Yash in KGF Chapter 2. Since their pairing was a big hit, she felt that playing opposite him as Sita while he portrayed Ravana might be difficult for the audience to accept so soon after their successful collaboration. She thought it could feel strange.
Praise for Sai Pallavi
Srinidhi Shetty also expressed her excitement about Sai Pallavi being cast as Sita in Ramayana. She believes Sai is a fantastic choice for the role and shared that if something doesn't work out, it opens up new opportunities for growth and exciting future prospects.
Sai Pallavi is currently filming the Ashok Vatika sequence for the upcoming Ramayan, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The film, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana, is slated to release in two parts in Diwali 2026 and 2027. Sunny Deol, playing
Hanuman
, has yet to start filming, while Yash recently completed his Mumbai shoot. The epic is expected to feature VFX-heavy sequences and intense performances, marking it as a major milestone in Indian cinema.
Ramayana also stars Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi. The film is scheduled to release in theaters in November 2026.
