Bollywood’s much-loved ‘Gadar’ actor is back in the spotlight—not just for his upcoming action-packed film ‘Jaat’ but also for his honest views on why Bollywood keeps turning to remakes. Sunny Deol recently opened up about the changes in the industry, admitting that too many opinions during filmmaking often lead to mistakes.
Sunny Deol on Bollywood’s remake trend
In a recent chat with Komal Nahta, Sunny remarked, “The passion that we possessed in our industry is somewhat lacking now. South ke log humse seekh ke aage badhte gaye hain, that is why we are remaking their films.”
Actors, directors, and producers today lack the confidence
He further noted that many actors, directors, and producers today lack the confidence that once defined Bollywood, leading to a trend of borrowing ideas instead of creating fresh, original content. The ‘Damini’ actor also addressed another key issue, too many opinions interfering with the filmmaking process. Sunny believes that a film’s story should be the real star and that the director must have full creative control. He said, “But we think we know everything, and everyone who has a monitor in front of them will give their opinion, and that leads to mistakes.”
Sunny’s upcoming movies
He also pointed out that audiences crave a deeper connection with movies—something that stays with them long after they leave the cinema. Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of ‘Jaat’, which hits cinemas on 10 April 2025. This action thriller, directed by Gopichand Malineni, promises to showcase the ‘Gadar’ star in a powerful new avatar. The film also stars Randeep Hooda, Saiyami Kher, and Regina Cassandra in key roles.
Besides ‘Jaat’, Sunny is also reuniting with acclaimed director Rajkumar Santoshi for ‘Lahore 1947’. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, this period drama revisits the emotional turmoil of India’s partition.
